Signal Mountain Middle High School Learning Center Coordinator


The Signal Mountain Middle High School (SMMHS) Learning Center was established to provide timely, individualized academic support for students who need additional assistance with study skills, organization, exam preparation, assignments, projects, and other coursework, helping ensure all students have the resources necessary to succeed.  


Position Overview


The Learning Center Coordinator supports student success by overseeing academic intervention, tutoring, testing, and enrichment services for Signal Mountain Middle High School students. Working closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families, the Coordinator identifies and addresses individual student needs, connects students with appropriate academic supports, and fosters a culture of achievement and growth. The Coordinator also manages Learning Center staff and peer tutors, ensuring high-quality, accessible resources are available to support students both during and beyond the school day.


Hours (when school is in session) 


Monday thru Thursday: 7:45am – 4:00pm 

Friday: 7:45am – 2:45 pm 

 


Coordinator Qualifications


  • Previous experience in student tutoring preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education required


Coordinator Responsibilities


  • Promote Learning Center to SMMHS faculty and communicate with teachers and school counselors regarding students who need tutoring and assistance during school hours.

  • Provide tutoring both during and after school.

  • Manage Learning Center staff as applicable, including Tutor(s).

  • Provide organizational skills and study skills and/or other classes as needed for students, based on identified needs and in consultation with SMMHS staff.

  • Personally provide tutoring and assistance to students, and supervise all tutoring.

  • Work with faculty sponsors of Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and Leo Club to advise student peer tutors of the sign up process.Peer tutors will sign up on Sign-up Genius. Write slips for peer tutors for them to provide to their club.  

  • Keep digital  records of all students who visit the Learning Center, when they came, who sent them, what services they received and in what subjects they were tutored (Google Form.)

  • Prepare annual reports of student referrals, student visits.

  • Use Power School, Managebac, Canvas, and teacher input to stay abreast of current assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, and activities for students.  

  • Assist students who are doing credit recovery or accrual on Edgenuity and follow their progress.

  • Assist students with online work such as Delta Math.

  • Keep Learning Center resources and supplies up to date and well organized.  

  • Maintain Learning Center computers, copier, and printer and supervise student use of all technology resources.

  • Keep the bulletin board outside the Learning Center up to date with Learning Center information.  

  • Communicate with teachers and parents about Learning Center procedures, policies, schedule, and services through email, school website, promotional materials, and Facebook.

  • Develop study materials for students to use in the Learning Center.  

  • Collect and organize study materials, textbooks, copies of assignments, workbooks, etc. for student use.

  • Assist students with study skills, testing tips, organization skills, and research skills.

  • Host Lunch Bunch during student lunch on Thursdays to provide social skills lessons. 

  • Administer make-up tests, read alouds and provide testing accommodations for students with IEPs or 504s.

  • Assist with state testing and PSAT, ACT testing. 

  • Provide study hall blocks as assigned by counselors or administrators for students who are at risk, in transition from home schooling or other circumstances, or who are failing academic classes and need extra assistance.

  • Assist students who are in ISS and need academic help that the ISS teacher cannot provide.

  • Attend SEAD Department meetings once a month. 

  • Be an ambassador for MEF in the school and the community.

  • Adjust the Learning Center’s role according to the needs of students and the vision of MEF, the administration and faculty.
